Why is it that people feel in the wrong body and should be the opposite sex?

it always wonders me, because 1 week ago, i recently found out that one of my closest guy friends, that ive known since 7th grade, said he, was a "she". And i learned how they made a image of the opposite sex with pills and shots but why is it people will feel in the wrong sex body. Is it due to pregnancy were the gender went wrong or what?

Im not saying that this has anything to do with your friend, but I have heard that in a lot of cases when a hermaphrodite is born the parents chose which sex they wish for the child to be instead of keeping it the way it is. Ive heard in many cases that later on in life when the child finds out about their situation, they very much dislike the choice there parents made because they personally feel they should be the opposite sex from which they were chosen to be.
